The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation or the AMC is responsible for the civic infrastructure and administration of the city of Ahmedabad. The AMC has forged a number of partnerships with NGOs, non-profit organizations, private industry, educational institutions and international agencies for enhancing its urban development capacities, improving municipal service, delivery and restoring civic pride.
The AMC supports ‘aProCh’ in its efforts to make ‘Ahmedabad a Child Friendly City’. ‘aProCh’ is the avenue for us to show that AMC also cares for the children of Ahmedabad. AMC is happy to provide basic infrastructure and services to ‘aProCh’ for its several initiatives. Through its initiatives, ‘aProCh’ has been able to engage all citizens of Ahmedabad to create opportunities for children... The initiatives give importance to proper upbringing of children in their primary years so that it is built on a good foundation.
We hope through these efforts, ‘aProCh’ will inspire today’s children to become better citizens tomorrow. AMC is happy to support this cause, because it will help us build a better ‘Ahmedabad’ tomorrow.
Forging meaningful and effective partnerships was possible because of AMC’s pro-active image, enhanced credibility and professionalism.
Ahmedabad Traffic Police has partnered with aProCh with all its Street Smart events. From providing permissions to conduct Street Smart events on busy streets of Ahmedabad, the police has provided safety and security and related permissions for all its initiatives. The Traffic Police has been a real 'Friend of the Child' by permitting aProCh to make Ahmedabad's First Child Friendly Zebra Crossing and spearheading another street initiative called - The Walkers' Paradise on C G Road - Ahmedabad's busiest street.
Christopher Kost of ITDP says, "aProCh's efforts in initiatiing the Walkers' Paradise are a great step toward realizing a more equitable city that respects its pedestrians and cyclists as much as it does motor vehicle drivers. It is essential that the city takes this work further, expanding the car-free stretches into the other parts of the city so that more communities can enjoy safe, pollution-free streets on a regular basis. I look forward to our continuing collaboration.
